K-8 School Counselor positionJob Title: K-8 School CounselorOverview: The Portland Village School is seeking a collaborative, child centered, equity focused, school counselor to join our school community!In joining our 440 student k-8 school community, you can be a part of bringing joy and reverence to children through our mission to“advance a Public Waldorf education that teaches respect and reverence by developing the head, heart, and hands in children from all backgrounds and cultures.” As a vital member of our school team, the school counselor will play a pivotal role in fostering a positive and supportive school culture, ensuring the well-being and success of our students, and upholding the values of care, safety, and relational standards of the Portland Village School. The counselor supports the emotional, social, and academic well-being of our students. You will work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and administrators to create a nurturing and supportive environment that promotes the holistic development of every child. Responsibilities:Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students in grades K-8, addressing a wide range of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral concerns.Collaborate with teachers and parents to develop strategies for supporting students' academic and personal growth.Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify students' strengths, challenges, and needs.Design and implement comprehensive school counseling programs that promote social-emotional learning, conflict resolution, and positive behavior management.Organize and facilitate workshops and seminars for students, parents, and staff on topics related to mental health, bullying prevention, diversity, and other relevant issues.Serve as a resource and advocate for students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles.Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, and school events as required.Develop and write 504 plans for students with special needs, in collaboration with teachers, parents, and administrators, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and promoting equitable access to education.Other related duties as assigned. Qualifications:Master's degree in School Counseling or related field from an accredited institution.
